Hello fellow Fantasy Baseball addicts and welcome to Fantasy Baseball Island. The blog will consist of rankings, prospect info., and sleeper ideas before the season starts, with player updates and waiver move ideas during the regular season. Although I will be writing about NL Baseball mainly, I welcome ALL Fantasy Baseball questions. This Blog is brought to you by FantasyBaseballExpress.com

I'm in a keeper league and was out of the running fairly early on last year so I went out and got a lot of cheap youngsters with potential. Now I have to decide who to keep this year. Any thoughts on the following players (at the following prices)...
A. Gonzalez $8, B. Phillips $8, H. Ramirez $10, S. Drew $4, E. Encarnacion $11, C. Young $8, L. Milledge $8, B. McCann $14.
And here's the pitchers...
Billingsley $5, A. Reyes $8, J. Johnson $8, R. Hill $5, J. Jennings $8, T. Tankersley $8, F. Cordero $8, B. Fuentes $11.
It's an NL only 5x5 pool, $260 cap, 14 batters (including 2 catchers), 9 pitchers. Obviously Hanley is the best of the bunch but after that who do you like best? How would you rate them all?
With Brandon Phillips playing 2nd base this year, you're set up the middle with he and Hanley. I like Drew at $4 and is a solid MI. Bringing him back as a back-up is an option and potential trade bait later in the year. I would bring back A. Gonzalez, but I would also try and get my hands on an elite 1B (Pujols, Howard, Berkman, or Lee). Gonzalez hit .336 after the break but I don't think he is going to hit more than 30 HRs. McCann is a no-brainer as he is the only elite option at C. I'd get myself a Paulino or J. Bard dirt cheap as your secondary catcher. C. Young is one I would wait till spring training on. If he is their everyday CF and looks decent, bring him back. I think 20/20 is doable since he has been proving himself in the minors for a while now and should be ML ready. I would not bring back Milledge or Encarnacion. 3B is deep in the NL and unless other teams are keeping those guys, I would take my chances in the auction. As far as pitching goes, Billingsley, Hill, Cordero, and Fuentes for sure. Tankersley is a maybe if he wins the closer job in FLA. That leaves us with Reyes, Johsnon, & Jennings. Reyes has the most upside with Johsnon a close 2nd. I'm personally not as excited as everyone else is about Jennings. HOU is extremely hitter friendly, even more so than COL now with the humidor effect. He may win more games but I don't see an improvement in his ratios. With that said, if he repeats last year's numbers, you have provided your team with value since he is only $8 to bring back. I would probably go with Reyes and Johsnon for now. To summarize, I'd keep Gonzalez, Phillips, Ramirez, Drew, Young, McCann, Billingsley, Reyes, Johnson, Hill, Cordero, & Fuentes. You still have $163 to get yourself some stud OFs and corner guys and have a solid start to your pitching staff.
Thanks for the advice, the thought of tossing Encarnacion back because of a deep 3rd base pool is a good idea.
We're only allowed to keep 11 max so I'll have to make a decision between Reyes and Johnson (or possibly Tankersley) but I'll hold off on that until or keepers need to be in. Also might look into making a trade to pick up a stud keeper for the lineup. Been trying to get Howard since midseason last year, time to try again.
