Just as a reminder, in my 3 up/3 down segment, I will be highlighting 3 potential sleepers on the up and 3 of the team's top prospects expected to start down in the farm system.
3 Up-
1. John Patterson - I think a lot of fantasy players have forgotten Patterson, which makes him an excellent sleeper candidate heading into '07. I've seen him drop all the way down to rounds 15-18 in 12-team mixed leagues. Many teams are even drafting unproven rookies or 2nd year pitchers ahead of him. It was just 2 years ago that this potential fantasy ace had a 1.20 WHIP, 3.14 ERA and 185 Ks in 198 innings. Although no elbow surgery can be considered minor, his was a surgery to repair an impinged nerve, not Tommy John. Take a flier on this guy and watch him make a huge contribution to you WHIP, ERA, & Ks.
2. Ryan Church - Because of the lack of solid outfielders in WAS, Church will finally get his opportunity to play everyday. He slugged a solid .526 in limited playing time in '06 and knows how to take pitches as evidenced by his .362 OBP. At 28, Church must produce this year as Casto will probably be ready for everyday duties opening day '08. I think .283/17/72 is a strong possibilty given the opportunity.
3. Dmitri Young - I might be stretching here, especially with all the off-the-field problems (diabetes, drug & alcohol abuse) he's had, but Young could be a nice comeback story in '07. From what I've been reading, Young has gotten the apporpriate help and is ready to take advantage of the opportunity that WAS has given him. He's a lifetime .289 hitter with some pop. Keep an eye on him in the spring to see if he wins an outfield job or 1B until Johnson is ready.
3 Down-
1. Kory Casto OF
2. Chris Marrero OF
3. Collin Balester RHP

I agree with you on patterson, I like him alot. But he is, and I have used this phrase incorrectly before, a HUGE injury risk. His innings pitched totals, including minor leagues, the last 3 years:
100, 200, 50. I want to get this guy, but only on the very cheap, as there is little comfort in him posting 150 innings, let alone 200.

LOL. Yes, I think "Huge injury risk" can be used for Patterson.
Love the Da Meat Hook shout-out. He's not worth even a mid-round pick, but late in the draft could be worth a solid, no-risk, post-Round 20 flier.
Any links to some late-round strategy? It may not be a bad idea to collaborate on some end-game strategery.
Here is what I am wrestling with: Patterson or Prior? What do you think?

LOL. One thing I forgot to mention about Da Meat Hook is that I saw some pics of him in camp, and it looks as though he still has a "few" pounds to lose. I like the idea of some end game strategy. Lets compile a list of five guys NL & AL that have been going after round 16/17 that we feel could provide tremendous value. I will post a link when I come up with my five and we can have people share their five in the comments area.
LosGenius-
Funny that you should ask that question, because those are two guys that I am targeting in my NL Auciton League. I already have my fare share of injury risk guys as keepers in Anibal Sanchez & Josh Johnson, so I have to be cautious. But both Prior & Patterson could provide ace-type numbers at a bargain price. Depending on when your draft is, if Prior has a solid spring, I could see his price/ADP improve subsantially. So I feel you will probably be able to get Patterson cheaper/later in drafts, hence providing the best value.
